How to Compare LASIK Quotes: LASIK vs PRK vs SMILE Pricing

A cheap LASIK quote and a higher SMILE quote may not be competing prices for the same procedure. Compare the technology, both-eye scope, pre-op testing, medications, follow-up, and enhancement terms.

Laser-vision quotes are easier to compare than many surgical quotes, but only if the clinics are pricing the same procedure and technology level. A $1,200 PRK quote, a $1,700 femtosecond-LASIK quote, and a $2,200 SMILE quote are not three prices for one identical service.

Start with the procedure name

Ask the provider to state whether it is quoting:

Colombia LASIK’s current 2026 pricing guide publishes roughly $1,200–$2,200 for both eyes across current-generation LASIK/SMILE pricing and specifically warns patients to compare technology parity rather than price alone.

The most important LASIK quote field: the platform

The FDA’s LASIK checklist tells patients to ask about the laser used for their procedure and how much experience the surgeon has using that same laser. For an international quote, write down the actual platform rather than accepting “latest technology.”

Quote fieldWhat to record
ProcedureLASIK / PRK / SMILE / ICL
EyesOne or both
Laser/platformManufacturer + model where available
Pre-op testingCorneal mapping, refraction, dry-eye evaluation, etc.
SurgeonName and experience
MedicationImmediate post-op drops included?
Follow-upDay-one, week-one, later visits
Enhancement termsIncluded, discounted, excluded, time-limited

PRK can be cheaper without being “worse”

Colombia LASIK currently publishes a separate PRK guide with lower pricing than some current-generation LASIK/SMILE options. The lower price does not mean the provider is offering an inferior version of LASIK. PRK is a different refractive procedure with a different recovery profile and may be recommended for patients whose corneal or lifestyle factors make it a better fit.

The clinician, not the quote marketplace, decides which procedure is appropriate.

SMILE can cost more because the technology is different

SMILE uses a different laser workflow from flap-based LASIK. Colombia LASIK’s current content specifically distinguishes SMILE Pro/current-generation platforms from traditional LASIK and notes that technology can materially affect the quote.

If two providers quote different procedures, do not pressure the more expensive clinic to “match” the lower price until you know whether they are actually proposing the same thing.

Ask whether both eyes are included

This sounds obvious, but U.S. refractive-surgery pricing is often discussed per eye while Colombian medical-travel sites frequently publish both-eye pricing. Put “both eyes” in the first row of your comparison spreadsheet.

Pre-op testing is part of the product

Laser-vision candidacy depends on more than the glasses prescription. The FDA checklist tells prospective patients to consider prescription stability, eye conditions, pupil size, medical conditions, medications, and a thorough preoperative examination. Ask whether the quote includes the clinic’s complete pre-op workup.

Enhancement policy can change the value

Ask what happens if the initial result later requires retreatment. The FDA advises that enhancement should not be performed until refraction is stable. Your commercial question is narrower: does the original price include any enhancement coverage, for how long, and which expenses remain yours?

Current Colombia price anchors

The current Colombia Medical network publishes:

Those public figures tell you which quotes deserve a second look. They do not determine candidacy or the right procedure.

Build the comparison around technology parity

Good comparison: Femtosecond LASIK, both eyes, same-generation platform, complete pre-op evaluation, standard postoperative drops, same follow-up window.
Bad comparison: “Clinic A: LASIK $1,200. Clinic B: SMILE $2,100. Clinic A wins.”

Travel is a smaller but still real line item

Because LASIK is relatively low-ticket compared with joint replacement or full-mouth dental work, airfare and lodging consume a larger share of the savings. Run the all-in trip math before assuming a Colombian quote is economically superior to a competitive domestic cash-pay offer.

What GetMedicalQuotes should route

For vision leads, collect the procedure being considered, prescription if known, whether the patient has been told they are or are not a candidate for LASIK, city preference, timing, and whether they already have a quote. Then send the deep procedure research to ColombiaLasik.com and the actual quote request into the participating provider flow.

Request actual provider quotes

Ready to price your case instead of a generic procedure?

Tell us what treatment you are considering, where you are traveling from, your timeline, and what information or records you already have. We can route the inquiry through the Colombia Medical network and organize provider responses for comparison.

Initial inquiry only. Do not send IDs, payment-card information, intimate photographs, genetic-testing reports, or highly sensitive medical records over ordinary SMS or WhatsApp. If a provider needs records or photographs for clinical review, ask which secure channel it uses.

Research basis

Published Colombia figures are planning ranges or network-published market references, not patient-specific quotes. A treating clinician must assess the case and issue the actual estimate.
